Welcome

Welcome to the website of the parish of Our Lady and Saint Nicholas, the Parish Church of Liverpool.

We are a Church of England parish in the Diocese of Liverpool. A church has stood on this site since the thirteenth century and the present church dates from just after the Second World War (although the tower originates from the early nineteenth century). Our parish covers most of the city centre and docks, including Lime Street, the Albert Dock and the “Liverpool One” development; in total over 16,000 people live within our boundaries.

Our position on the Pierhead means that for generations the Church has been associated with seafarers. We have strong links with the Royal Navy and the Merchant Navy, and sailors have looked to us as their spiritual home. The Parish Church also serves the civic and business communities in the city, and today reaches out to the increasing residential population as well. We aim to be a place of sanctuary, prayer and worship for the whole of Liverpool.

The Church is open most days, and you are welcome to drop in. You will find more information about our daily acts of worship from the menu on the left of this page. Hundreds of people visit the church every week, and for most of them it is a place to come from the busyness of the city for a few minutes silence and contemplation, perhaps to say a prayer and light a candle. You are most welcome.
