Who's who

The Rector, the Revd Dr Crispin Pailing

Fr Crispin has been Rector of Liverpool since 2014. His first degree was in Classics before going on to study theology, followed by post-graduate research on the 20th century theologian Karl Rahner. Fr Crispin was ordained in 2003 and came to St Nick’s from a parish in North Birmingham, where he developed an interest in church mission and growth.

As Rector of Liverpool, Fr Crispin has a particular place in the civic life of the city, but he is also committed to maintaining the Parish Church as a place of welcome and sanctuary for all, developing the social outreach of the Church. Fr Crispin is a trustee of a number of charities and social enterprise organisations, working to develop the social benefit of the voluntary sector.

Assistant Priest, the Revd David Baverstock

A native of Rochdale, David spent several years in London as a student at Kings College London, a member of a lay religious community attached to St Paul’s Cathedral and as a pastoral assistant at the Church of St Mary-le-Bow, before training for the priesthood at Westcott House, Cambridge.

He was based in the Diocese of St Albans for his first curacy, at the Parish of Mill End and Heronsgate with West Hyde, and as part of the Cheshunt Team Ministry.  David was appointed Assistant Priest in April 2013 and is currently leading parish liturgical developments and coordinating pastoral ministry.

Assistant Priest, the Revd Michelle Montrose

Michelle was born in Chorley and, apart from a year spent in London, has been based in Liverpool throughout her working life.  After five years as a member of the Sisters of Mercy, she began her work in support of those with learning difficulties, initially through the L’Arche Community and a 7-year appointment with MENCAP.  Since 1995 she has held a senior NHS role in commissioning services for those with learning difficulties.  More recently she has been working as a case manager for people with severe brain injuries.

Michelle was ordained in 2008 and served her first curacy in the Parish of St Mary, West Derby.  She joined St Nick’s as Assistant Priest in October 2012.

Assistant Priest, the Revd Bill Addy

Bill joined the clergy team in June 2017.   He is already well-known to many in the Church, and has been a friend and colleague to us at St Nick’s in his role as Chief Executive of the Liverpool BID Company.   Prior to his move, Bill was serving in the Mossley Hill Team and has had special responsibility for St Barnabas, Penny Lane.

His move to St Nick’s will enable him to connect his ‘day job’ with his priestly ministry.
